We firmly believe that if you are going to do something in life, do it the right way and do it as best as you can. Our advanced health testing, cutting-edge socialization, and continual customer support provide the best experience possible for families who adopt our golden retrievers. Our goal is to improve the breed of Golden Retrievers and provide outstanding family companions.

How do you breed your puppies to be as healthy as possible?

Every dog breed is prone to certain health conditions. This is why advanced health testing is one of our top priorities at Summer's Goldens. Every one of our adult dogs has their hips, elbows, eyes, and heart tested to ensure that only the healthiest dogs are bred. Not only are our adult dogs tested in these four key areas, but we also go the extra mile to ensure quality genetic testing for each adult dog. Not all genetic testing companies are created equal. We have chosen Embark, a partner of Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine, to help us minimize genetic health risks in our puppies as much as possible. Many breeders choose not to do these tests because they are an investment, but we truly feel that they are a vital part of responsible breeding.

Why does COI matter?

The COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) of each adult dog shows how much genetic overlap there is between their parents' lineages. The lower the COI, the better. By carefully pairing adult dogs who have diverse genetic backgrounds, we increase the chances that their puppies will live longer, healthier lives. Many dogs who are poorly bred will have a high COI. This leads to decreased lifespan and a greater likelihood of health issues. We have very low rates of cancer in our dogs' lines, and this is partly due to our focus on lowering the COI. As a responsible breeder, we don't breed just for today. We breed with the future in mind to have healthy, happy Golden Retrievers for decades to come.

Besides health, what else do you focus on?

At Summer's Goldens, we focus on creating lifelong family companions. High-quality socialization during the first two months of a puppy's life is one of the most critical components of its lifelong development. Our puppies experience a variety of different surfaces to walk on; human touch all over their bodies; temperature changes; different sounds like fireworks, doorbells, cats meowing, and car engines; children; baths and nail trims, and more. We want our puppies to be more than just physically healthy; we want them to be mentally and emotionally ready for their future families.

I don’t think I could’ve went with a better golden retriever breeder than Summer’s Goldens. From excellent communication to openness for questions and in-person visits, Marta was a pleasure to work with. She was very caring and knowledgable about her puppies and her observations on her puppies’ temperaments were spot on. Not to mention the health and genetic clearance and extensive early socialization. A bit on the pricier side but worth it imo, 10/10 would recommend!

It was a great experience adopting a golden retriever puppy from Summer’s Goldens! Marta answered all of our questions along the way and is very knowledgeable of the breed and their specific dogs. It took us a while to find the exact time that worked for our family to bring a puppy home and I never felt pressured to adopt when we weren’t ready. I appreciated her patience through the whole process!

Birdie, formerly Tootsie, has been a great addition to our family. She was very clearly well socialized. The entire process from reaching out to Marta expressing interest to picking up Birdie was so seamless. This was our first family dog and so we had a lot of questions to ensure we were making the right choice for our young family, and Marta happily answered all of our questions. The pick up process was very smooth and organized, and the facility where they keep the puppies is very clean. All of their adult dogs and puppies are gorgeous! I can't say enough good things about Summer's Goldens! I discovered Summer's Goldens on my own after tons of research. I was referred to at least three other breeders by friends of mine but when I tried to contact each of them I received either a very delayed response, a response only after multiple attempts by me, or no response at all. That was not a good sign! So I set out on a search myself and came across Summer's Goldens, which I immediately noticed had over 100 five star reviews. Upon seeing that and reading the many positive reviews, I studied the website and really liked what I saw - from all the pictures and videos, to the thorough information that was provided on the dogs (health clearances, pedigree, etc.) and their environment, I became confident that Summer's Goldens was a reputable breeder who cared deeply about its dogs and used ethical breeding practices. After my initial inquiry, Marta responded right away, which was both appreciated and reassuring. Ironically, a few weeks into our adoption process, I ran into an acquaintance of mine who has a golden retriever and we put two and two together that hers was also a Summer's Goldens puppy! She said her golden is the best she's ever had, which obviously made us so happy to hear and affirmed that we had made the right choice.

What Summer's Goldens does really well is communicate!! First, there is an abundance of information provided upfront and that information is then backed up by consistent communication throughout the entire process. During my inital research, I found the website to be very informative which allowed me to feel confident in my choice to move forward with Summer's Goldens. I was further reassured by thorough communication, both with updates on the puppies as well as timely responses to any and all of my questions whenever I had them, no matter how trivial. This made the process feel very personal and that Summer's Goldens had my family's best interest at heart. The picture and video updates that were sent, as well as the personality descriptions, were very helpful and beyond adorable!!! It's only been a week with our sweet little guy but he is perfect in every way and we couldn't imagine life without him!
